Music is woven into the fabric of school life here in Broadford. From Junior Infants right through to Sixth Class, the children are constantly engaging in the different elements of music, both inside and outside the classroom.
As well as class teachers exploring music as part of the curriculum, we are also lucky enough to have the support of two visiting teachers, Mrs. Hayden and Mrs. Higgins.
Mrs. Hayden visits our school every Monday, and lifts the roof when she takes classes throughout the school for choral practise. She brings great energy and enthusiasm everywhere she goes, and can be heard singing long before she reaches the classroom door! She gets the best out of the children, producing a beautiful choir each year.
Mrs. Higgins takes any child who wishes from Second to Sixth Class every Thursday. Children can learn to play the violin, viola or cello. She is of a quieter demeanor than Mrs. Hayden but just as brilliant. She brings the children together as an orchestra on special occasions such as Christmas, and it is always a treat to hear them perform.
